Al’s birthday weekend London visit and marching with SAMA at the cenotaph

Well, where to start, what a brill weekend, didn’t have a clue what to expect but we managed to fill up the weekend quite nicely.

Me, Al, Chris and Georgia went down in the camper on Friday night and parked/slept outside Kee and Ryans pad looking forward to the brekkie Kee had promised.

Had a full day in London which was finished off nicely by some amazing fireworks at the end of the Lord Mayors Parade celebrations. This was followed by Al opening her pressies from the kids and participating in the odd beverage or two!

The following morning consisted of an early start, suited and booted with my medal and poppy and made my way down to Horse Guards Parade to meet up with the Alacrity lads and approx 200 others who were marching past the cenotaph as part of the SAMA (South Atlantic Medal Association)

While waiting to move off, got talking to a chap called Doug who was 94 and was proudly sat in his wheelchair, covered in medals and wearing his white ‘Russian Convoy’ berry, could have knelt next to him and chatted for hours, such a lovely bloke.

Marching completed, we marched ourselves off to the Union Jack Club and that’s where we remained…. lost count after 10 pints!!!

Overall, a lovely weekend.
